STATEMENT
Passing Through explores the symbiotic relationship between art and the surrounding landscape. Through lines and forms, nine unique works create fragmented spaces that arise from the gaps between and within them. By blending drawing and sketching, the voids within the lines, both penetrative and substantial, shapes the site and creates spaces that foster dialogue.
Walking along the mountains, passing through them.
Passing Through not only reflects on how these works interact with and respond to nature, but also envisions an act akin to sketching: a process of observing and capturing the scenery before one's eyes, like holding a sketchbook while in constant motion. This perpetual state of movement unfolds in the transitional zone between urban edges and nature in the Sanying Reclamation area, mirroring the dynamic among the nine distinct works. It suggests a choreography of meandering steps along the boundaries among the works, tracing lines with the body as if it were a pencil. In this way, humans, sculptures, and even the contours of mountains and rivers form textured outlines, reminiscent of the flowing, refined lines of a sketch. So that they begin to rise and fall organically, breathing with rhythm and clarity.
Simultaneously, the exhibition contemplates how these works traverse, construct, and ultimately become space. Creating spaces light enough for bodies to move through freely, while fluid, ever-shifting spaces arise from the interplay of seemingly static forms, filling the voids and giving shape to the intangible. As viewers move, the works remain steadfast, like stones in a riverbed spreading into rolling hills. Meanwhile, we, like water or wind, flow through them, shaping and being shaped in return.
